Discord troubleshooting: no DMs, no events, the bot looks offline, commands missing

A checklist for the most common Discord problems with the Rosterr bot, events, webhooks and Bloxlink.

Written by Liam Radford

A person is not receiving DMs

All of these must be true (see "Get Rosterr updates as Discord direct messages (and turn them off)"):

  • Your workspace has added the bot and the message is switched on.

  • They have a Discord account linked and have not turned DMs off (bell menu).

  • They share a server with the bot.

  • Their Discord privacy settings allow DMs from server members.

No session events in Discord

  • Sessions in Discord is switched on, and at least one session type is ticked.

  • The bot has Manage Events and Create Events in your server.

  • Events cover the next two weeks, up to 50. Press Sync now.

  • If someone deleted an event by hand, Rosterr leaves it deleted. Turn events off and on again.

The bot shows as offline

  • It shows online only while Rosterr holds a connection open for it. After a Rosterr restart it takes a few seconds to reconnect.

  • If the token was rejected, the page says so ("Discord rejected the bot's token. Reconnect the bot."). Save a new token.

  • A Business bot is paused if the plan drops below Business.

Slash commands are missing

See "Rosterr bot slash commands (/activity, /quota, /sessions, /claim, /leave and more)". Commands register within about a minute. Make sure you are in the server, not a DM.

Approve/Deny buttons are missing

The buttons only appear when Discord is pointed at Rosterr for that bot. If they do not, reviewers get a plain message and can review on the website. For your own bot, set the Interactions Endpoint URL in your Discord application.

The audit channel gets nothing

Use Test connections (newer settings). It tells you whether the token, the channel or the birthday channel is the problem. The usual fixes:

  • "The bot can't post in that channel": give it View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links there.

  • "That channel doesn't exist any more": pick another.

  • "The bot isn't in that server any more": invite it back.

  • "Discord doesn't accept the bot's token": add the integration again.

Webhook not posting

The webhook URL may have been deleted in Discord, or the channel changed. Create a new one and paste it. Use Test to check. Webhooks are free on every plan.

I want to change the wording of the messages

Rewording messages is part of Pro. See "Add the Nebula Rosterr Discord bot to your server".

Still stuck

Contact support from Help and Support with your workspace's group ID, what you expected, and what you see on the settings page.
