There are two separate ways to send things to a Discord channel (not direct messages):
The Discord integration (a bot of your own posting to a channel).
Discord webhooks (a simple link to a channel).
Direct messages to people use the Rosterr bot (see "Add the Nebula Rosterr Discord bot to your server").
1. The Discord integration
Under Settings > Integrations > Discord. You need a Discord bot token (from your own Discord application) and the bot must be in your server.
Set it up
Paste the bot token and choose to validate it. Rosterr checks it.
Choose the server, then the channel for updates.
Choose which events are posted (see below).
Optionally set a birthday channel and turn birthdays on.
Save. Rosterr sends a test message to the channel to prove it works.
The token is stored encrypted.
What can be posted
Event | Posts |
User Actions | Warnings, promotions, demotions and terminations |
Notice Approved / Denied | When inactivity notices are approved or denied |
Document Created / Updated / Deleted | Changes to documents |
Wall Post Created / Deleted | Wall activity |
Role Updates | When user roles are changed |
You can also customise how the messages look (title, colour, footer, thumbnail), and the wording of each category.
Birthdays
If you set a birthday channel and switch birthdays on, Rosterr posts birthday messages for members who shared their birthdays. You can also send birthday messages without this integration: in Settings > General (birthday notifications) choose Enable Birthday Notifications and paste a Discord webhook URL for the channel, then use Test to check it. If you have the integration set up you can choose Use Discord Integration for Birthdays instead, and optionally a specific Birthday Channel.
Check it
Settings shows the server and channel, when a message was last sent, and an error count with the last error. Use Test connections (newer settings) to try the token and each channel and see what is wrong in plain words. Refresh the status with the refresh button.
Remove it
Choose Remove Integration. It disconnects Discord and deletes these settings.
2. Discord webhooks (free on every plan)
A webhook is a link that lets Rosterr post into one channel without a bot.
In Discord open the channel settings > Integrations > Webhooks and create a webhook. Copy its URL.
In Rosterr open Settings > Integrations > Discord webhooks.
Paste the URL for the kind of log you want, switch it On, and Save.
Choose Test to send a test message.
The kinds are:
Audit log: a copy of every audit entry.
Admin commands: in-game admin commands your game sends.
Chat: in-game chat lines your game sends.
Your game sends admin and chat logs using the API (see "Rosterr game API: endpoints reference"). Mentions in log text never ping anyone.
