Leave allowance (days off per year)

How to give each member a yearly number of leave days, what uses them up, and how members and reviewers see the balance.

Written by Liam Radford

An allowance gives each member a yearly number of days of approved leave. Approved notices use days up, and reviewers see what is left when they decide.

Switch it on

Open Settings > Features and turn on the Allowance feature, then open its settings:

  • Days per year: the number of days each member gets. It can be 0 to 365. The default is 28.

  • Year starts in: the month the allowance year begins. The default is January. The year runs from the 1st of that month.

How days are counted

  • Every calendar day covered by an approved notice counts, and a day counts once even if two notices overlap.

  • A notice with no end date counts up to today.

  • Only the part of a notice inside the current allowance year counts toward that year.

  • Denied, pending and revoked notices do not use days.

Where people see it

  • Members see their own balance (remaining, or "over your allowance"). It shows nothing if allowances are off.

  • Reviewers see a chip showing the requester's remaining days when reviewing a notice.

  • In Discord, /allowance shows days used and left.

It does not block anything

Rosterr only shows the balance. Going over the allowance does not stop a request being made or approved: it is information for the reviewer.
