To stop Rosterr's mail domain being used for spam, there are limits on how many different new people you can email per day.
Two kinds of email
Emails to people Rosterr already knows. These do not use your daily allowance (they have a generous safety cap, 100 a day by default). Someone is "known" when they are:
inside your workspace (a member, even one who has never opened Mail, or a shared inbox), or
someone who has written to that inbox, or
someone that inbox has really sent an email to before.
Adding someone to your contacts by hand does not make them known. An email has to have actually gone.
Emails to new people. These are limited per person per workspace per day, counted per recipient, and depend on your workspace's plan (its effective plan: a lapsed subscription counts as Free).
The daily allowance for new people
Plan | New people per day |
Free | 5 |
Pro | 10 |
Business | 25 |
It resets at midnight UTC. The Mail screen shows how many you have left ("N of 5 emails to new people left today") and explains this when you hover over it.
These are the starting values for the newer Mail. Nebula staff can change them.
Other hard limits
20 recipients per email (To, Cc and Bcc together).
20,000 characters per email and a 200-character subject.
500 incoming emails per inbox per day.
10 MB per attachment, 10 files and 20 MB on one email.
Undo send holds an email for 6 seconds, and scheduled email can be up to 30 days ahead.
If you run out
The message you get says what does not count against the allowance: people inside your workspace, and people who have already emailed you or that you have already emailed. Wait until midnight UTC, or ask the person to email you first.
Why do these limits exist?
If a spam email from one workspace damaged the reputation of the mail domain, every workspace's email would be delivered less reliably. The limits protect everyone's deliverability. There is also a switch that Nebula staff can use to stop all sending if the domain is ever being abused. Incoming mail keeps arriving when it is used.
