How you agree to a policy (signature, username, typed word or tick box)

The four ways a policy can ask you to confirm you have read it, and what to do when one will not accept your answer.

Written by Liam Radford

When the author creates a policy they choose how you confirm. There are four ways.

Method

What you do

Signature

Draw your signature in the box ("Draw your signature above"). Use Clear to start again.

Type your username

Enter your username exactly as it appears in your account

Type a required word

Type the word the policy asks for, such as "ACKNOWLEDGED"

Tick box

Tick the confirmation boxes. Rosterr says: "Please confirm your acknowledgment using the checkboxes above."

For policies that link to an external document, you must first open the link ("External document visited") before the confirmation works.

What you will be told if it fails

  • "Please provide your digital signature": the signature box is empty.

  • "Please provide your username" or "Please enter your correct username exactly as it appears in your account".

  • "Please type the required word to acknowledge" or "Please type the correct word to acknowledge". The word is not case sensitive, but it must be spelled the same.

  • "Please visit the external document before acknowledging".

What is recorded

When you agree, Rosterr records who agreed, when, and the address you agreed from (and your signature or typed answer). Only people who can view policy compliance can see who has agreed and when. Other members cannot see your signature.

Troubleshooting

  • The button does nothing. One of the checks above has not been met. Read the message under the box.

  • I cannot see the signature box. Your policy uses a different method.

  • I cannot find the policy. It may not be assigned to you. Ask who owns it.
