Evidence: what you can attach to a case and how it is checked

Which files and links can be attached to a case, size limits, the safety checks, and who may add or remove evidence.

Evidence documents a case: screenshots, clips and links.

Add evidence

On a case choose Upload Evidence (the case page says: "Upload images, videos, or add links to document this case").

Upload a file

  • Choose Upload File, then drag and drop, or Browse Files.

  • Images and videos only: JPEG, PNG and WebP pictures, and MP4 or WebM videos.

  • The upload box says "Max 10MB" (the system accepts a little more, but use 10 MB as the limit).

  • Rosterr checks what is inside the file, not just its name, so renaming something does not get around it.

  • Every file is also scanned for viruses and disguised programs, the same as Mail attachments. A file that is blocked, or cannot be checked at that moment, is refused and nothing is saved.

Add a video link

  • Choose Video Link and paste the address.

  • Supported places: YouTube, Medal.tv and Google Drive, over https.

  • Any other address is refused. (Addresses that try to hide something unsafe, or have a username or password in them, are always refused.)

You can add a short description to each piece of evidence.

Who can add and remove evidence

  • Add: people with Upload evidence, Create moderation cases or Edit moderation cases. Only being able to view moderation is not enough.

  • Remove: the person who uploaded it, the person who opened the case, and people with Edit moderation cases or Delete evidence. Admins can always.

  • Anyone who can open the case can view and download its evidence. Files are only served to people allowed to view moderation in that workspace.

Where it is kept

Evidence files are stored on the server and linked to the case. Deleting a case also deletes its evidence.

Troubleshooting

  • "That file was blocked". It looks like a program or failed the safety check. Take a screenshot of it instead.

  • Link refused. Use a YouTube, Medal.tv or Google Drive link starting with https://.

  • Cannot see Upload Evidence. You need one of the permissions above.
