I can't do something: which permission do I need?

A quick lookup from "I cannot do X" to the permission that controls it, so you know exactly what to ask your admin for.

Written by Liam Radford

If a menu item, button or page is missing, it is nearly always because your role lacks a permission, or the workspace has the feature switched off. Find your problem below, then ask a workspace admin for that permission.

It still does not work?

  • The feature may be off for the workspace (Settings > Features). Admins can turn it on.

  • Your role changed a moment ago. Permissions are remembered for up to about half a minute.

  • You may be on a different role than you think. Check with an admin.

  • For Mail, a lowest rank may be set. See "Mail needs a higher rank: why you see it and what an admin can do".
